- 8 cups water, divided
- 1/2 to 3/4 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
- Ice cubes, for serving

- Rinse the dried hibiscus flowers under cold water to remove any dust.
- In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil.
- Add the hibiscus flowers to the boiling water and simmer for 5–7 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let the mixture steep for 10–15 minutes.
- Strain the liquid into a pitcher, discarding the flowers.
- Add the remaining 4 cups of cold water to the pitcher.
- Stir in sugar until fully dissolved, adjusting sweetness to taste.
- Chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
- Serve over ice and garnish with lime slices if desired.
Notes
- You can reuse the hibiscus flowers to make a lighter second batch.
- For a tangier flavor, add a splash of lime juice.
- Adjust sugar to preference; some prefer it more tart.
