- 6 cups sliced, peeled apples (about 6 medium apples)

- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar

- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

- 1 tablespoon lemon juice

- 3/4 cup old-fashioned oats

- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

- In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with granulated sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Transfer the mixture to a greased 8×8-inch baking dish.

- In a separate bowl, mix together the oats, flour, brown sugar, nutmeg, and salt.

- Cut in the butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

- Sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the apples.

- Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbly and tender.

- Let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream.

		Notes

- Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for the best flavor.

- Can be made ahead and reheated in the oven.

- Add chopped nuts like pecans or walnuts for extra crunch.
