Apple & Pear Compote

- 2 apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
- 2 pears, peeled, cored, and chopped
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- In a medium saucepan, combine chopped apples and pears with water and lemon juice.
- Add brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract (if using).
- Stir well to combine, then bring to a simmer over medium heat.
- Cover and cook for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the fruit is soft and starts to break down.
- Use a fork or potato masher to mash the fruit to desired consistency.
- Serve warm, at room temperature, or chilled.
Notes
- Adjust sugar to taste depending on the sweetness of the fruit.
- Great as a topping for yogurt, pancakes, or oatmeal.
- Can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days.
