- 2 ½ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup whole milk
- Buttercream frosting (various pastel colors)
- Edible butterfly decorations
- Edible flowers or fondant flowers
- Food coloring (gel, various colors)
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then mix in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool completely.
- Level the cake layers if necessary. Spread a layer of buttercream between the layers and stack them.
- Apply a crumb coat and refrigerate the cake for 30 minutes.
- Decorate the cake with pastel-colored buttercream, using piping tips to create garden effects.
- Add edible butterfly and flower decorations to complete the butterfly garden theme.

- Use gel food coloring for more vibrant frosting colors.
- You can use a boxed cake mix for convenience, but homemade gives the best flavor.
