- 2 lbs russet or Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 4 cloves garlic, peeled
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup whole milk (or more for desired consistency)
- Salt to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper to taste
- Chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
- Place the potatoes and garlic cloves in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add a pinch of salt.
- Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to a simmer and cook for about 15-20 minutes, or until potatoes are fork-tender.
- Drain the potatoes and garlic, then return them to the pot.
- Add the butter and mash until smooth and well combined.
- Gradually add the milk, stirring until the desired creamy consistency is reached.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
