- 6 tbsp butter (for caramel)
- 1/2 cup heavy cream (for caramel)
- Pinch of salt (optional, for salted caramel)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then mix in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture alternately with milk, starting and ending with the dry ingredients.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cakes cool completely.
- To make the frosting, beat butter until creamy, then gradually add powdered sugar. Mix in milk and vanilla until smooth and fluffy.
- For the caramel, melt sugar over medium heat in a saucepan, stirring constantly until it turns amber in color.
- Add the butter and stir until melted. Slowly pour in the cream and continue stirring until smooth. Add a pinch of salt if desired. Cool slightly.
- Frost the cooled cake layers and drizzle the caramel over the top. Let set before serving.

- Ensure caramel is slightly cooled before drizzling to avoid melting the frosting.
- Store cake in the refrigerator if not serving immediately.
