Chicken Teriyaki

A classic Japanese dish featuring tender chicken glazed in a sweet and savory teriyaki sauce. Perfect for a quick and delicious meal served over rice or with vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500g boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons mirin (sweet rice wine)
  • 2 tablespoons sake
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Optional: chopped green onions and sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, mirin, sake, and sugar until the sugar dissolves. Set aside.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add chicken thighs and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, until browned and cooked through.
  4. Pour the teriyaki sauce mixture into the skillet with the chicken.
  5. Simmer the sauce for 3-4 minutes, turning the chicken to coat evenly, until the sauce thickens and glazes the chicken.
  6. Remove from heat and let rest for a few minutes.
  7. Slice the chicken and serve over rice or with vegetables. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds if desired.

Notes

  • You can substitute chicken breast for thighs if preferred.
  • Adjust sugar to taste for a less sweet version.
  • Serve with steamed rice or stir-fried vegetables for a complete meal.
