Cinnamon Rolls with Glaze

Soft and fluffy cinnamon rolls topped with a sweet vanilla glaze, perfect for breakfast or brunch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1/2 cup whole milk, warmed
  • 1/4 cup water, warmed
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk (for glaze)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, salt, and yeast.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix warm milk, water, and melted butter. Add the egg and stir to combine.
  3. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Roll the dough into a rectangle on a floured surface. Spread softened butter over the surface.
  6. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon together, then sprinkle evenly over the buttered dough.
  7. Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut into 12 equal pieces.
  8. Place rolls in a greased baking dish. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
  9. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake rolls for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown.
  10. While rolls are baking, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract to make the glaze.
  11. Drizzle glaze over warm rolls before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure the milk and water are warm, not hot, to activate the yeast properly.
  • For extra richness, use cream cheese glaze instead of vanilla glaze.
  • Rolls can be prepared the night before and baked the next morning.
