Greek Lemon Chicken Skewers with Tzatziki Sauce

Tender Greek lemon chicken skewers marinated in a zesty blend of lemon juice, garlic, and herbs, grilled to perfection and served with a refreshing tzatziki sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons lemon zest
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Wooden or metal skewers
  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cucumber, grated and drained
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for tzatziki)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (for tzatziki)
  • 1 garlic clove, minced (for tzatziki)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill or mint (for tzatziki)
  • Salt to taste (for tzatziki)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together olive oil, lemon juice, lemon zest, garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper.
  2. Add the chicken pieces to the marinade, cover, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably 2-4 hours.
  3. If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for 30 minutes before grilling.
  4. Thread the marinated chicken pieces onto skewers.
  5. Preheat grill or grill pan to medium-high heat. Lightly oil the grates.
  6. Grill skewers for 10–12 minutes, turning occasionally, until the chicken is cooked through and has grill marks.
  7. While the chicken is grilling, prepare the tzatziki sauce by mixing Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, and dill or mint in a bowl. Season with salt to taste.
  8. Serve chicken skewers with the tzatziki sauce on the side.

Notes

  • Marinate the chicken for extra flavor, ideally overnight.
  • You can substitute chicken thighs for juicier results.
  • Serve with pita bread and a Greek salad for a complete meal.
