Mini Corn Dogs

Mini corn dogs are a fun and tasty snack made by dipping small hot dog pieces in a sweet cornmeal batter and deep-frying until golden. Perfect for parties, game day, or a kid-friendly treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup yellow cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 8 hot dogs, cut in half
  • Wooden skewers or toothpicks
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix buttermilk, eggs, and 1 tbsp vegetable oil until well combined.
  4. Add wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until smooth. Let the batter rest for 5 minutes.
  5. Insert wooden skewers or toothpicks into each halved hot dog.
  6. Pat hot dogs dry with a paper towel, then dip each one into the batter, coating completely.
  7. Carefully lower the battered hot dogs into the hot oil and fry in batches for 2–3 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. Remove and drain on paper towels. Serve warm with ketchup or mustard.

Notes

  • Ensure hot dogs are dry before dipping for better batter adhesion.
  • You can use cocktail sausages instead of regular hot dogs.
  • Try adding a pinch of cayenne for a spicy twist.
  • These can be frozen and reheated in the oven.
