Mozzarella Sticks

Crispy, golden-brown mozzarella sticks with a gooey, melted cheese center, perfect for a snack or appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 mozzarella string cheese sticks
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 2 cups Italian-style breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Marinara sauce, for dipping

Instructions

  1. Unwrap the mozzarella sticks and cut them in half to make 24 pieces. Freeze for at least 1 hour until solid.
  2. Place the flour in a shallow bowl. In another bowl, beat the eggs with milk. In a third bowl, combine breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Dip each frozen cheese stick into the flour, then the egg mixture, and finally coat with the breadcrumb mixture. For a thicker crust, repeat the egg and breadcrumb steps.
  4. Return the coated sticks to the freezer for another 30 minutes.
  5. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Fry the mozzarella sticks in batches for about 2 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Do not overcrowd the pot.
  7. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  8. Serve hot with marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • Freezing the cheese before frying prevents it from melting too quickly and leaking out.
  • Double coating adds extra crunch and helps seal the cheese inside.
  • You can bake or air fry for a healthier alternative.
