- 12 mozzarella string cheese sticks
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 2 cups Italian-style breadcrumbs
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Marinara sauce, for dipping
- Unwrap the mozzarella sticks and cut them in half to make 24 pieces. Freeze for at least 1 hour until solid.
- Place the flour in a shallow bowl. In another bowl, beat the eggs with milk. In a third bowl, combine breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Dip each frozen cheese stick into the flour, then the egg mixture, and finally coat with the breadcrumb mixture. For a thicker crust, repeat the egg and breadcrumb steps.
- Return the coated sticks to the freezer for another 30 minutes.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the mozzarella sticks in batches for about 2 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Do not overcrowd the pot.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Serve hot with marinara sauce for dipping.
Notes
- Freezing the cheese before frying prevents it from melting too quickly and leaking out.
- Double coating adds extra crunch and helps seal the cheese inside.
- You can bake or air fry for a healthier alternative.
