Oatmeal Baby Porridge

A smooth, creamy oatmeal porridge tailored for babies 6 months and older—easy to digest, quick to prepare, and perfect for introducing whole-grain goodness.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup (20 g) rolled oats, finely ground
  • 3/4 cup (180 ml) water, breast milk, or prepared formula
  • 1 teaspoon fruit purée (banana, apple, or pear), optional

Instructions

  1. Grind the rolled oats in a clean coffee grinder or food processor until you have a fine powder.
  2. In a small saucepan, whisk the oat powder with the water (or milk/formula) until no lumps remain.
  3. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium-low heat, stirring constantly, for about 5 minutes or until thick and creamy.
  4. Remove from heat and let cool to lukewarm. Stir in the fruit purée if using.
  5. Test temperature before serving; thin with additional liquid to reach your baby’s preferred consistency.

Notes

  • Use certified gluten-free oats if gluten is a concern.
  • Adjust thickness with extra liquid as your baby progresses to thicker textures.
  • Leftovers keep refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 24 hours; thin and reheat gently.
