Panna Cotta

Panna cotta is a classic Italian dessert made from sweetened cream thickened with gelatin and molded. It’s smooth, creamy, and often served with fresh berries or a fruit coulis.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) unflavored gelatin
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Fresh berries or fruit sauce, for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, sprinkle the gelatin over the milk and let it bloom for 5-10 minutes.
  2. In a saucepan, combine the heavy cream, sugar, and salt. Heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves and the cream is hot but not boiling.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in the bloomed gelatin until completely dissolved.
  4. Add the vanilla extract and mix well.
  5. Pour the mixture into ramekins or molds and let cool to room temperature.
  6. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or until set.
  7. To serve, unmold the panna cotta onto plates or serve directly in the ramekins. Top with fresh berries or fruit sauce if desired.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, you can substitute some of the cream with coconut milk or buttermilk.
  • To unmold easily, dip the ramekins in warm water for a few seconds.
  • Adjust sweetness by adding more or less sugar based on your preference.
