Pickled Garlic

Pickled garlic is a tangy and savory condiment made by preserving garlic cloves in a vinegar-based brine, offering a milder flavor than raw garlic and a satisfying crunch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups garlic cloves, peeled
  • 1 cup white vinegar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon whole black peppercorns
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 bay leaves

Instructions

  1. Sterilize a glass jar and lid by boiling them in water for 10 minutes. Let them air dry.
  2. In a saucepan, combine vinegar, water, sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil and stir until sugar and salt dissolve.
  3. Place garlic cloves, peppercorns, mustard seeds, red pepper flakes (if using), and bay leaves into the sterilized jar.
  4. Pour the hot vinegar brine over the garlic, ensuring the cloves are fully submerged.
  5. Seal the jar with the lid and let it cool to room temperature.
  6. Refrigerate the jar for at least 5 days before using to allow flavors to develop.

Notes

  • The pickled garlic will keep in the refrigerator for up to 3 months.
  • Use fresh, firm garlic cloves for the best texture.
  • You can customize the spices to your preference.
