Rice Cereal with Banana

A simple, smooth and nourishing breakfast porridge made from instant rice cereal gently cooked with mashed ripe banana – perfect for babies, toddlers or anyone needing an easy, soothing meal.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup (25 g) instant rice cereal
  • 3/4 cup (180 ml) water, breast milk, formula or unsweetened plant milk
  • 1/2 medium ripe banana, mashed (about 50 g)
  • Optional: pinch of ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, bring the water or milk to a gentle simmer over medium-low heat.
  2. Whisk in the rice cereal, stirring constantly to prevent lumps.
  3. Cook for 2–3 minutes until the mixture thickens to a smooth, creamy consistency.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in the mashed banana until fully incorporated.
  5. Sprinkle with a pinch of cinnamon if using. Let cool to a safe temperature before serving.

Notes

  • For thinner cereal, add an extra splash of liquid after cooking.
  • Replace banana with puréed pear or apple for variety.
  • Always test temperature before serving to babies.
