Shrimp Cocktail

A classic appetizer consisting of chilled shrimp served with a tangy cocktail sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 lemon, halved
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons prepared horseradish
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Few dashes of hot sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. Fill a large pot with water, add salt and halved lemon, and bring to a boil.
  2. Add shrimp and cook for 2-3 minutes until pink and opaque.
  3. Drain shrimp and transfer immediately to an ice bath to chill.
  4. In a small bowl, mix ketchup, horseradish, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce to make the cocktail sauce.
  5. Chill cocktail sauce in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes.
  6. Serve shrimp on a platter with cocktail sauce on the side.

Notes

  • Use fresh or frozen shrimp; if using frozen, thaw completely before cooking.
  • Adjust horseradish and hot sauce to taste for spiciness.
  • Can be prepared ahead and refrigerated until serving.
