Skeleton Bone Meringues

These spooky skeleton bone meringues are a fun and eerie treat, perfect for Halloween. Light, crisp, and sweet, they’re shaped like bones and made from simple ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large egg whites, at room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°F (93°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a clean, dry mixing bowl, beat the egg whites with an electric mixer on medium speed until foamy.
  3. Add the cream of tartar and continue beating until soft peaks form.
  4. Gradually add the sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, beating on high speed until stiff, glossy peaks form and the sugar is fully dissolved.
  5. Mix in the vanilla extract, if using.
  6. Transfer the meringue to a piping bag fitted with a round tip.
  7. Pipe bone shapes onto the prepared baking sheets.
  8. Bake for 1.5 hours, then turn off the oven and let the meringues sit inside for another hour to dry out completely.
  9. Remove from oven and let cool completely before serving or storing.

Notes

  • Make sure the mixing bowl and beaters are completely clean and free from grease for best results.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
  • You can use a printed bone template under the parchment paper as a piping guide.
