- 2 pounds sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 1/4 cup milk (or plant-based milk for dairy-free)
- 2 tablespoons butter (or vegan butter)
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
- Black pepper to taste
- Peel and cut the sweet potatoes into evenly sized cubes.
- Place the sweet potatoes in a large pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil over high heat.
- Reduce heat and simmer for about 15–20 minutes, or until the potatoes are very tender.
- Drain the sweet potatoes and return them to the pot.
- Add butter, milk, salt, and any optional ingredients like maple syrup or cinnamon.
- Mash the potatoes using a potato masher or hand mixer until smooth and creamy.
- Adjust seasoning with additional salt and pepper as needed.
- Serve warm.
