Sweet Potato Mash (Without Sauces)

A creamy and flavorful sweet potato mash, perfect as a side dish for any meal. It’s simple, comforting, and packed with nutrients.

  • 2 pounds sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1/4 cup milk (or plant-based milk for dairy-free)
  • 2 tablespoons butter (or vegan butter)
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • Black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Peel and cut the sweet potatoes into evenly sized cubes.
  2. Place the sweet potatoes in a large pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil over high heat.
  3. Reduce heat and simmer for about 15–20 minutes, or until the potatoes are very tender.
  4. Drain the sweet potatoes and return them to the pot.
  5. Add butter, milk, salt, and any optional ingredients like maple syrup or cinnamon.
  6. Mash the potatoes using a potato masher or hand mixer until smooth and creamy.
  7. Adjust seasoning with additional salt and pepper as needed.
  8. Serve warm.

Notes

  • For extra creaminess, use heavy cream instead of milk.
  • To make it vegan, use plant-based milk and butter.
  • You can add a pinch of nutmeg for a warm flavor.
